Duggar Family Rolls

I'm a big fan of the TLC channel. I have watched every Duggar special and now am a big fan of their new show, 18 kids and counting!. I found this recipe on the Duggar family website. They claim this is the entire families favorite roll recipe. If it meets the approval of 20 people, then I knew I had to try it. I have made these rolls many times over the past 2 years. We had Christmas dinner at our house the first time I made them. My grandma makes the worlds best rolls and complimented me on mine, so I knew they really were good! These rolls have turned out wonderful every time I have made them. They're also one of the easiest rolls I have ever tried to make.

DUGGAR FAMILY ROLLS
1/2 cup shortening
1/2 cup sugar
1 tsp salt
2 pkg. yeast
5 cups flour, divided
2 eggs

Combine shortening, sugar, salt, yeast and 2 cups flour in large bowl & cut with pastry cutter. In a 2 cup measuring cup beat 2 eggs and then fill cup to 2 cup mark with hot water. Pour over dry mixture. Slowly add: 3 c. flour. Cover. Let Rise 20 minutes in warm oven. Pour onto floured surface.Knead. Flatten with hands into large pizza shape. Cut with pizza cutter into16 slices. Roll up from wide end to point. Place in greased pans leaving space for rolls to double in size. (can shape like crescent or lay on side where swirl shows.) Cover. Let rise in warm oven at least 20 min. Remove from oven. Preheat oven. Preheat oven to 375. Bake 20-30 min. depending on how dark you prefer. Immediately brush with 1 stick (1/2 c.) melted butter. Makes 16 Rolls in 2-9”x13” pans

I have never attempted rolls or loaf bread.
My favorite were served in my ol' school cafeteria made by sweet ol' farm women. I've not found any anywhere that tasted like those.

Have a happy day!☼
I just usually bust out the can of Pillsbury buttermilk biscuits! I will give this a try. My folks are coming into town this weekend and it will impress them!

Those look good Heidi. I have such a weakness for bread. You have got me into the duggar family recipes. I keep going back and looking at them.

Yes- I have tried the Duggar's Tator Tot Casserole. My girls will not eat tator tots (they're crazy because tator tots are my favorite) so they wouldn't eat it. Me and Brad liked it though. It's really simple and basic. Just make sure you let your tator tots get crispy or it will taste like soggy, not done tator tots!
Hi, I recently discovered your website by linking through another one (can't remember which one now though :-(). I was wondering if you make a full recipe of this or half it. Also, if you do make a full recipe, do you freeze left over rolls. Would they freeze very well? I don't seem to have very good luck with freezing bread. Thanks in advance for your response. ~~Rebecca

OMGosh Heidi, these were awesome!!! We were out of buttermilk for our normal "quick buttermilk yeast roll" recipe and I had this post bookmarked, so we decided to give it a try! Since my husband is the "doughboy" in our house, he of course changed the recipe from 1/2 cup shortening to 1/4 cup shortening and 1/4 butter. We are huge yeast roll fans and these were like the ones we grew up on - the old fashioned way!!! Thanks for sharing!!! I love the Duggars too! ;)

These look so yummy! They remind me of the rolls your Aunt Kathy used to make at school. I LOVED those days!! Anyway, I'm sure they won't come out good at all if I tried it to make them because no matter how bad I want to be, I am not a good cook (poor Jason. He should have nabbed you when back when you were neighbors hehe). So eventually we are just gonna have to move back home to MO and eat at your house every night to try all your delicious recipes!
