Whole Baked Chicken in the Crock Pot

Ok, so I realize this isn't the prettiest cooked bird. He's quite ugly and not very photogenic, but man was he tasty! I'd never used the crock pot to cook a whole chicken, but wanted to give it a shot. It worked great. By the time 4:00 rolled around my husband and children were drooling because it smelled so good in our house. I took him out of the crock pot and put him in my serving plate and sat him on the table. My kids were trying to attack the poor thing. He ended up loosing a leg and got his skin picked off his wing (you can see in the picture) before I could even take his picture. Sophie ate at least 4 helpings of this chicken and Chase had eaten his first helping before I even got the rest of his plate filled. Makayla even tried this chicken. It was juicy and extremely tender. Brads only complaint was the skin not being crunchy. He likes to eat crunchy skin, but you don't get a crunchy skin from cooking it this way. He said the taste of the meat made up for it though. I can't wait to use the leftovers to make white chili.

WHOLE BAKED CHICKEN IN THE CROCK POT
1 whole chicken (2-3 lb)
2 tsp salt
1/2 tsp pepper
1 tsp paprika
1 tsp onion powder
1/2 tsp garlic powder

Wad three pieces of aluminum foil into 3-4 inch balls and place in the bottom of the crock pot. Pour enough water in crock pot to just cover the bottom. Rinse chicken and pat dry. Mix seasonings in a small bowl. Rub onto chicken. Place chicken in crock pot on top of foil. Cover and cook on high for 2 hours and then turn it down to low and cook for 5 more hours, or until done.

We really enjoy crockpot recipes! I'm super impressed that you got your chicken out, without it falling apart! That's talent :)

I think that chicken looks great for coming out of a crockpot. Mine are always falling apart, but they do taste good!

Gorgonzola is a bit like blue cheese only MUCH milder. My kids really like it.

Looks good for crock pot chicken.

I bought a George Foreman GV5 Contact Cooker brand new at an auction for $5. I love it for baking chicken! Since we do low carb it gets used weekly.
This looks so good! I love a good crock pot recipe... and I am also impressed that you got it out whole! My best attempts always end up turning into 'shredded dishes'. :) Can't wait to try it!

My trick for getting the chicken out whole was using 2 heavy duty spatulas. Maybe I just lucked out! I think the wadded up foil helped me to get under it better. If it would have been touching the bottom of the slow cooker I don't think It would have came out in one piece! Even if it would have fallen apart it still would have tasted good.

Crystal- sounds like you lucked out at your auction! I've never heard of the contact cooker. Is it a lot different than the G.F. grills?

I'll bet the chicken stock that this method produced is worth its weight in gold!

Hi Heidi.

I'm Heidi from Summerville, South Carolina (FromTheCheapSeatz/CarolinaDreamz.)

I made my first chicken, like this, last month, in an attempt to make shredded chicken for a few different meals, I'd planned. I had such a hard time, though, not eating it, as I was de-boning it.. yum!

I need a dish, like this one your bird, is on, for my blog photos. Love it! :)
This is a good idea, I usually just do roast and dips in the crock pot, but I will try some chicken since I have one in the deep freezer right now.
