A few weeks ago I was chosen to be in a group of food bloggers to help promote the Beef. It's What's for Dinner Wednesdays Challenge. Each Wednesday in September there will be a new recipe to follow or make "your own". This week's recipe was the East meets West Burger. I'm very excited I was one of the bloggers chosen to be an ambassador! What a huge honor because we're BIG beef fans. I would like to invite all my readers to join this fun challenge. It's open to anyone. Scoot on over to the Facebook fan page for all the details. After you submit your opinion on each week's recipe you could win one of 5 Beef Grilling Gift Bags! The gift bags includes The Healthy Beef Cookbook, a set of Crate & Barrel Grilling Tools, Sur La Table mini steak thermometers, a reusable shopping bag and other items to help you shop for and cook healthy beef meals. Be sure to go check out the full details on how to submit on their Facebook Fan Page! I hope everyone's up for joining this fun challenge with me and the 7 other bloggers who have accepted the challenge as ambassador.
Now, for my take on this burger. I definitely chose the make it "your own" route. My take on this recipe's much different than the original, but I think it turned out great (and I'm sure the original's excellent too, just not quite my style). First of all the original called for adding bread crumbs to the ground beef and making your own patties. I couldn't believe the beef people wanted us to add something to the wonderful meat! I opted instead to use 100% black Angus patties. The original also wanted you to make a sesame-soy mayonnaise and a separate slaw topping... well I cut time and made an Asian inspired slaw. All-in-all I think these burgers were a success! Try them out yourself and take the challenge :)
I would like to wish my oldest baby a Happy Birthday. I can't believe Makayla's 8 already! She loves antique dolls and here's a picture of her with the doll she's been begging to get for months. It's a Charmin Chatty from 1961 and I had a time finding her! Why couldn't she want something simple like a Barbie or something?
EAST MEETS WEST BURGERS (my version)
4-6 100% black Angus burgers
1/4 cup buttermilk
1/4 cup milk
1 TBSP white vinegar
1 TBSP dill pickle juice
1/2 cup miracle whip
1/2 tsp salt
1/2 tsp pepper
1/4 tsp soy sauce
1/8-1/4 tsp crushed red pepper flakes
1 sliced green onion
3/4 bag (1 lb bag) ready to eat coleslaw mix (with cabbage & carrots)
Mix buttermilk, milk, vinegar, pickle juice, miracle whip, salt, pepper, soy, and crushed red pepper flakes in blender until well blended. Mix with sliced green onion and coleslaw mix and set in refrigerator. Grill burgers. Top grilled burger with slaw and toppings of choice (I did tomato and lettuce).
When you get a moment head over and check out the other ambassador's blogs. They're all awesome!

After seeing this challenge on several blogs, I decided to give this week's recipe a try. We really liked these burgers. I followed the recipe but like your version as well. It's always fun to do different flavors with burgers.
These look delish :)
Happy birthday to your "little" girl! Cool that she loves the antique dollie!!!
These burgers sound yummy - I love beef too! This challenge sounds interesting - I'll have to check it all out!
I love your version of this recipe! It looks very tasty! I wish my husband would eat slaw!

Your burgers look great and I'm going to have to check out this "challenge"!!!
The burger looks great, Heidi!
BTW....I had a Chatty Cathy when I was a little girl.....which was soooo long ago. :-)
And....be happy she wanted a Chatty Cathy and not the "street-walker" Barbie. That is what my daughters call Barbie because her clothing is oh so trashy.
:-)
