KFC Copy Cat Cole Slaw

If you're a fan of KFC slaw, today's your lucky day. After setting in the fridge 48 hours this recipe really does taste almost exactly like KFC's yummy slaw. I'm not saying I particularly care for the chicken, but I've always loved the sides. I prepared this slaw Saturday night for Sunday nights dinner. It tasted very good, but not like KFC. My husband took it in his lunch Monday and texted me to say this tasted just like KFC after setting longer in the fridge.
The key to the recipe is not getting in a hurry. If you want it to taste like that famous slaw you're going to have to wait two days. If you want good slaw (that doesn't taste like KFC) then go ahead and eat it after the 24 hours. To wait, or not to wait... that is the question?!? I found the recipe on the top 100 recipes of 2009 at recipezarr.com. Enjoy :)

KFC COLE SLAW
8 cups finely diced cabbage (about 1 head)
1/4 cup diced carrot
2 TBSP minced onions
1/3 cup granulated sugar
1/2 tsp salt
1/8 tsp pepper
1/4 cup milk
1/2 cup mayonnaise
1/4 cup buttermilk
1 1/2 TBSP white vinegar
2 1/2 TBSP lemon juice

Cabbage and carrots must be finely diced. (I use fine shredder disc on food processor) . Pour cabbage and carrot mixture into large bowl and stir in minced onions. Using regular blade on food processor process remaining ingredients until smooth. Pour over vegetable mixture and mix thoroughly. Cover bowl and refrigerate several hours or overnight (48 hours for me) before serving.

I love their slaw too! Will have to try this one.
I agree, slaw needs time to come together, don't make it right before you sit down to eat.

I think I have this recipe...if it's the same one, then yes, it really is a good one.

Here's a tip for anyone who needs it. To shred cabbage really fine, I put it in the bowl of my food processor with the chopping blade in place and add a cup or two of water. Process then pour it all into a strainer to drain. Much easier than using a box grater. :)

I love their slaw too. I have made this (not for sure if it is the exact recipe) KFC slaw to and it was great. Even if we ate it before the 48 hrs, it was still great.

Yum! Now I'm cravin' a 2-piece dinner too. lol.

I think that I could wait for the flavor to savor. : )
I find that with any coleslaw really - it needs an overnight party in the tub to marry up with everybody else! I know one thing too. I apparently like my coleslaw good and sweet!

I love cole slaw but am pretty picky about it. This one looks very very good indeed.

I received my Taste of Home Prize Winning Recipes magazine and I've been through it twice already, reading and rereading every single recipe and going back again. I'm having soo much fun with it.

Thank you for the spot of joy you have given me!
