Sweet and Sour Sauce Flop

I'm completely zonked!!! I've had 2 busy days in a row and can't wait to go to bed tonight. My poor feet feel like they might fall off. I thought I would quickly share another flop with you. I had no idea what to make for dinner one night. I needed to go grocery shopping and the only meat I had was a pack of pork burger. I went to the recipe exchange at allrecipes.com and asked if anyone had any recipes to share using pork burger. One suggested pork meatballs with sweet and sour sauce. Sophie tasted the sauce and had the look of pure disgust on her face. I quickly ordered a pizza! I ate them anyway and didn't think they were that bad... but then again I'm not very picky. Enjoy... or not :)

SWEET & SOUR SAUCE
2 cups pineapple juice
2/3 cup distilled white vinegar
1 1/2 cups white sugar
1 (6 ounce) can tomato paste
3 tablespoons cornstarch

In a medium saucepan over medium heat, mix together juice, distilled white vinegar, white sugar, tomato paste and cornstarch. Cook, stirring occasionally, 15 minutes, or until mixture reaches desired color and consistency.

It certainly LOOKS good even if it didn't taste good. I have a hard time myself with vinegar based sauces, since they're hard to get the right balance.

That's too bad. Rolling meatballs can be a little time consuming, it's a shame to find they don't taste good after spending the time to make them.

Thats discouraging, to be that tired and have to clean up the kitchen after a cooking flop. Hope you get some rest.

This is what I use on my sweet and sour chicken..its not overpowering in flavor at all.
1/2 cup Vinegar
1/3 cup Sugar
1/2 tsp. Salt
1/4 cup Orange Juice
1/4 cup Pineapple juice
1/4 cup Ketchup
2 TBL Cornstarch
1/8 cup Juice for Cornstarch

Mix vinegar, sugar, salt, orange juice, pineapple, and ketchup. Bring to a boil and simmer for 10 minutes, stirring often. Mix the 2 tablesppons of cornstarch with either 1/8 cup or orange juice or pineapple juice; Mix together and pour into sauce. Stir until thickened wich only takes a matter of seconds

Oh no! I love that you post your flops as well as your successes though. I use this recipe for sweet and sour meatballs - super easy and really good: http://www.kraftrecipes.com/recipes/simple-sweet-n-sour-91440.aspx

How frustrating...especially when you were already exhausted and still tried to prepare such a nice dinner! That is one thing that absolutely discourages me--it's so aggravating when you read a recipe that sounds delicious, only to make it and have your family snub it :( I'm like you--I probably would have eaten it, just to eat it...I'm not very picky, either, but I always want so badly for everything I make to be a "keeper"! I hope you get some rest this weekend and have a very Happy Valentine's Day :)

I hate when that happens! Especially if it was a chore to make or you were really looking forward to it.

Heidi, I probably would have tried that recipe, too. I'm sorry that it didn't work out well for you, especially after an exhausting day and all you want to do is sit and rest and enjoy and have it all be nice.

I hope you have a nice foot soak; ever done that with epsom salts. It's one of life's pure pleasures and will make you feel like a whole new woman!

Awww. Sorry to hear that the family wasn't crazy about them. I'm like you, I'm not very picky either. I guess they can't all be winners. Hope you get some rest!
