KFC Copycat Buttermilk Biscuits

Today's officially the first day of school here. This is the first year I've missed the girls getting on the school bus :( I got them ready before I left for work and my mom took this picture of them at the bus stop.
They look relatively happy. Lets see what they look like when they get off the bus! Makayla was NOT excited to be going back (to say the least). She cried and cried last night about not wanting to go. She was worried she would make bad grades because she can't write very well with her bummed up wrist. She had a little accident on her bicycle... and as you can see by the brace on her arm, the hill won! Her wrist was x-rayed yesterday and I found out today luckily it wasn't broken. She was also not excited because I made her wear a bra.... I know I'm horribly embarrassing.
Here's a yummy new recipe I found in one of those restaurant copycat cookbooks. We LOVE, LOVE, LOVE KFC's biscuits and I was excited to try out this recipe for them. I've already posted several biscuit recipes on here and actually had no plan of posting another, but when my husband dished out the compliments I quickly changed my mind. He's not one to give them out often, so when he does I know the recipe's a keeper. I wouldn't compare them to KFC's, but they're delicious none-the-less. Enjoy :)
KFC BUTTERMILK BISCUITS
1 1/2 cups flour
1 tsp salt
1 TBSP sugar
1 TBSP baking powder
1/3 cup vegetable shortening
2/3 cup buttermilk
Preheat oven to 425. Sift together the dry ingredients into a large bowl. Cut in the shortening. Make a nest in the flour mixture and add the buttermilk. Gently knead the mixture with your hands until thoroughly combined and soft dough forms. On a floured cutting board, pat the dough to a 1/2-inch thickness and cut with biscuit cutter of rim of a glass. Place biscuits on a cookie sheet and bake for 12 minutes.

Aw, they look so sweet. Hopefully Makayla will be happier when she gets home having seen some of her old friends. On the KFC copycat recipes, I'm with you. I tried a couple and none of them came close to the KFC I've ever had. They (and Popeye's) have some secrets they are holding tight too I guess! Still, ya can't beat a good biscuit in my book!!

Oh man, sounds like our girls might have a lot to talk about (mine's not excited to be back to school and I'm making her wear a bra too :P)
The biscuits look amazing! I love KFC.
