BBQ Beanie-Weenie Casserole

Poor Chase :( I hope his weekend gets better. Last night as I was getting supper on the table my children were running, jumping and acting crazy. It was raining outside and I'll blame it on not being able to go out and burn off their energy. Chase's metal pedal tractor was driven into the living room and Sophie ended up shoving Chase down and he hit is lip on the tire and bit it from the top and bottom. Blood was pouring out of his poor mouth. I cleaned him up and put an ice cube on it. Me and Brad took shifts eating because he wanted to be held. I know it hurt really bad. Poor little guy. He's been having bad luck the past few days! On the up-side, this beanie-weenie casserole turned out really good. I know I posted beanie-weenies a while back, but these taste completely different. I was browsing Mommy's Kitchen (if you have never visited this blog you MUST immediately) and spotted this casserole. I was excited to try it because it had BBQ sauce in it and my last beanie-weenies didn't. It's also baked and not cooked stove top, which is a plus because I had trouble with my last ones wanting to scorch. I did make some minor adjustments to the recipe. The original called for browning the dogs in butter, but I used my awesome Paula Deen non-stick pan to do the job without having to use the butter. The smell of browning them brought back childhood memories. My dad use to split them in half and fry them and make sandwiches out of them. They were so yummy and I had forgotten about them! I also added the pepper and onion powder. These were excellent. Quick, easy, inexpensive. It was only 87 cents per servings and could have been less if I would have bought the cheaper hot dogs. We all agreed the last beanie-weenies were good, but these were EXCELLENT! Thanks Mommy's Kitchen. I have made several of your recipes and they're great every time :)

BBQ BEANIE-WEENIE CASSEROLE
1 pkg. hot dogs
2 cans pork and beans
1/4 c. brown sugar
1 tsp mustard
1/2 tsp onion powder
1/8 tsp pepper

Cut dogs in slices and then cut slices in half (you have half circle shaped dogs). Saute until light brown. In a bowl combine the rest of the ingredients. Add browned dogs, mix, and pour into lightly greased casserole dish. Bake 30 minutes at 400.

*They are great with corn muffins. The Jiffy mix cooks at the same temperature, so you can put them in the oven together.
Poor Chase and his bummed-up lip :( His upper lip is so swollen, it doesn't even look like him!

Awee I know he is hurt but he is so darn cute in that picture. Heidi you house sounds as crazy as my house, I guess that is what happens with 3 kiddos running around. I do hope Chase's lip is better today. Oh boy mouths really do bleed. I am so glad you liked the recipe as a matter of fact we are having it tonight for dinner. I love how it bakes in the oven too it is so quick. My dad use to cut hot dogs in half and fry them for breakfast with scrammbled eggs how funny. I will try the onion powder and pepper tonight. ((Hugs)) to you and Chase.

Poor guy, I hope he gets better soon. My kids would love this too, and it's a way to get some fiber in them too!

Chase's feeling better today. It looks yucky because it's bruised, but he's eating and drinking well. Chase tries to be in the middle of everything and usually ends up the one getting hurt because he's the smallest. I have warned the girls he will probably beat them both up when he gets bigger than them! My house is crazy, but I wouldn't trade any of them off!
Donna- He is a big flirt and would love it if you pinched his cheeks :)

Mommy- You'll have to tell me if you like the onion powder and pepper.

teresa- The extra fiber is a plus, but I think they like to eat it because it gives them gas! LOL

I hope your little guy feels better!

When I saw your recipe, I had to laugh, b/c I remember my Mom making something very similar when my sisters and I were younger and I don't know why I've never thought to make it for my son...or husband, for that matter!?!? It certainly would be pretty nutritious with the beans!
