Dirty Rice

I'm so excited. I have to share this with you. I got an email this morning saying I'll be one of SITS featured bloggers! It will take them a few months to get to me, but I'm still really excited. If you're not familiar with SITS you can visit the website and learn more here. I would also like to remind everyone tomorrow I will be putting everyones name in a bowl who entered my giveaway and letting my kids each pick a name. You're probably thinking I'm crazy because I have 3 children and why would I want to pick 3 names? Well, I'm picking 3 names because I added 2 more prizes! The extra prizes are: the newest issue of Taste of Home and Betty Crocker Cakes (it's one of those 1/2 magazines from the check-out). I'm picking in the morning because tomorrow's grocery day and I will need to buy the ingredients to make my winning recipes. If you haven't already entered click here for your chance.

Now, for the Dirty Rice. I love Cajun food and this rice really hit the spot. My husband and children are wimps and thought it was a little spicy, but they ate it anyway because it was so good. Mrs. Suzie Homemaker posted this recipe and I knew I had to give it a try. She has a great site for food and more. It was quick, easy and less than $1.00 per serving. It also makes a TON so it was hard to determine how many servings! I actually thought the leftovers were even better because the flavors were incorporated more. It could be served as a main dish or as a side. This one's a keeper :)

DIRTY RICE
1 lb lean ground beef
1 onion, finely chopped
2 bell peppers, chopped
4 c. beef stock (I used Rachel Ray's)
2 c. long grain white rice
1 TBSP Tony Chachere's Original Creole Seasoning
2 cloves garlic, minced

Brown beef with peppers and onion. Drain if necessary. Add garlic, Creole seasoning and stock; bring to a boil. Stir in rice and bring to a boil again. Reduce heat and cover. Cook 25 minutes. Stir well before servings.

Welcome to SITS!!
I love dirty rice and yours looks great. I'm not big on Chachere's though, I like Zatarain's Creole Seasoning better.

Congrats on getting a SITS day! You have a couple of months to get ready!
This sounds so good, Heidi, and easy too! A great meal for any night!

LOVE dirty rice and your version sounds fantastic!!
Love Dirty Rice! I have a recipe for the authentic stuff on my blog - you know the one with gizzards LOL! Really, I swear it is much much better than any of y'all are thinkin'! That's actually how it got it's name since the livers and gizzards give it a sort of "dirty" look!

I'm with Katherine. I don't like Tony's so much anymore - it's gotten a bit, too commercial and well, light on the flavor to me. I use Slap Ya Mama Cajun seasoning mostly these days, made right down here in Ville Platte Louisiana! Love it, but I think you have to live down here or order it online. I'd say Zatarain's is a the more popular and common Cajun/Creole seasoning now.

Looking forward to see the winners! Oh and congrats on your upcoming feature! I cannot believe that they are that backed up... wow! I'll be happy to see more food blogs showin' up on SITS.

Have a great Friday and a fantastic WEEKEND!!

Thanks for posting this recipe. I'm always glad to find new recipes that don't have anything in them that I'm allergic to.

By the way, I really like the picture you have up at the top of your blog.
