Homemade Microwave Popcorn

Who ever came up with this idea's BRILLIANT! Microwave popcorn's getting to be ridiculously priced. My kids had so much fun making this and it tastes great too! I found this recipe at One Day at a Time and couldn't make it fast enough. Everyone really needs to try this out. If you enjoy microwave popcorn, this will save you tons of money. My kids eat popcorn almost every day. They're the experts and they gave this a big thumbs up! We enjoy dipping our popcorn into Ranch Dressing... hey everything's better with Ranch Dressing! I was a little concerned about putting staples in the microwave, but the original recipe insures you it's perfectly safe and won't cause any sparks. I had no problem at all with it.

HOMEMADE MICROWAVE POPCORN
1/4 cup popcorn kernels
1 tsp oil
salt
brown paper bag
stapler
Place popcorn, oil, and salt in a brown paper bag and shake to coat. Fasten bag with staples and place in microwave. Use popcorn setting or your normal time for microwave popcorn. Remove and season to taste.
Kettle Corn- Omit salt and add 2 tsp sugar into the bag with the popcorn and oil.
You can also flavor this with jello mix, butter, or Parmesan cheese

We just had the microwave-popcorn-is-so-expensive talk. So, yesterday I made it the old-fashioned way - in a pot on the stove. The kids were so excited; I just had to laugh.

Can't wait to give this a try!

I make it on the stove since we don't have a microwave. Its tastes so much better than microwave popcorn. We love using garlic powder and parmesan cheese on top. I'll have to try ranch dressing cause I love ranch dressing.

I've done it this way too, only folding the top over a couple of times because I was nervous about the staple issue. Great idea about the ranch dressing! I can't wait to try it!!

A lot of weeks I'll eat popcorn every night too, great idea!
What a great idea! How did the taste compare to the store bought microwave popcorn?

You can put staples in the microwave? I thought that would cause spark. Very cool idea, I'll have to try this out for Friday Movie Night :). TY girlie!

Never would have thought to use jello powder?! Interesting! So, I guess for butter flavoring - maybe you could just use butter instead of the oil from the getgo!!!

This sounds great--I'm sure it's SO much healthier than the prepackaged kind! I'm assuming you didn't have any problems with stapling the bag?!? I'm so paranoid about what I put in the microwave!!!

I've done this before, but never with staples. I never thought of adding jello to the popcorn, cool idea!

Thanks for adding this one. Kids these days don't really realize popcorn usually doesnt come in a bag and cooked in the microwave. I also liked all the other comments on how they do it and such.
