Skeleton Bones

Aren't these spooky little goodies adorable? Better yet, they're a much healthier choice than Halloween candy because they're meringue cookies. These cuties are light as a feather, crunchy and sweet enough to get rid of a candy graving! The recipe calls for vanilla extract, but you can play round with other flavor extracts to give them a different taste. I was in need of some holiday spirit today and thought these would be a perfect treat for me and Chase to munch on. I've been sewing Makayla's Snow White costume and after being completely fed up with the sewing machine I needed it! Sophie's going to be a box of popcorn and I have to get her costume painted. Good thing Chase chose to be a "walking pumpkin" and we already had the costume. I hope you enjoy these fun cookies :)
Here's how I normally make these cookies. If you get tired of piping bones you can always make blobs like these and say it's GASP ghost poo.

SKELETON BONES
3-4 egg whites
1 tsp white vinegar
1/2 cup sugar (or splenda)
1 tsp vanilla

Beat egg whites with vinegar until peaks form. Add sugar and vanilla; beat until stiff. Pipe onto a parchment or foil lined cookie sheet in bone shapes (or say heck with it and do blobs!). Bake at 300 30-40 minutes or until lightly brown and the centers are not wet. I sprinkled mine with a little cocoa powder to make them look dirty.

Here's my little Halloween helper :)

These sound pretty easy to make and my son is all excited about Halloween, so he'd get such a kick out of eating "skeleton bones". Speaking of Halloween...I give you so much credit for making your daughter's costume! My little girl is actually going to be Snow White, too, but I don't know that I'd have the patience to make the costume--my husband ended up buying it at Toys R Us! You sure are a jack of all trades :)
