Cinnamon Toast: Toasted vs. Broiled

Mmmmmm... I love the flavor of cinnamon and sugar. They make quite the combination. Growing up I looked forward to cinnamon toast for breakfast. It's a great way to dress up boring old toast. I think if toast went to prom cinnamon and sugar would be what it would wear :) My mom always made it like regular toast and then sprinkled the cinnamon and sugar on top. That's how I've always made it. I heard a friend raving about how her mom always broiled it in the oven so I decided to give it a try. Here's the result:

The kids complained the crust was hard, but still ate it. I've made it several times since and used the handy dandy toaster. It's much easier not turning the oven on and getting a pan dirty, so my vote sticks with the toaster cinnamon toast. How do you make your cinnamon toast???

CINNAMON TOAST
bread
butter
cinnamon sugar (my favorite ratio is: 2 TBSP sugar & 2 tsp cinnamon)

Toaster Method
Toast bread in toaster, spread with butter and sprinkle with cinnamon and sugar.

Broiler Method
Butter bread and place on baking sheet. Sprinkle with cinnamon and sugar and broil until golden and bubbly.

When I make cinnamon toast I think the broiler method is the best, I love it when the cinnamon melts with with sugar and butter. Yum!

Toaster all the way; Although, I've yet to try broiling it

I am a broiler girl all the way...that carmelized crunchy top is the best!

Definitely a toaster person. Not turning on the broiler for toast, grins.

I went to make your Peachy Chicken Flop and someone (not me, grins) drank all the orange juice. Will have to wait til another day. Darn.

I can't remember the last time I made cinnamon toast, it's been quite a while. I've done it both ways. I wouldn't say I have a favorite.

We usually do the toaster method - I keep my toaster oven sort of stashed away and it just takes SOOOO much more effort to take it out and use it. ;)

I'm all for the toaster! If I had to make a lot of toast, then I would probably throw it under the broiler.

I cheat and thats probably why I have to buy a new toaster every couple of years. I toast the bread, butter and sprinkle it with cinnamon-sugar then put it back in the toaster. You have to stand there and watch it super carefully, but it does the same thing as the broiler haha.

I use the toaster as well, but I butter my bread, sprinkle the cinnamon sugar and then toast!

For sure the toaster! Although...I have never tried the broiler.

the broiler leaves the underside of the bread...soggy and still "bread" not toast. I'm all for the toaster.
Funny.....we think alike, I askekd this same question about a month ago....

I LOVE cinnamon toast and always have a shaker of cinnamon and sugar mixed up! I've used both methods and frankly I kinda like the broiler with one side still "fresh," but it also means heating up the whole oven for one or two pieces of toast, so I most often go with the toaster, butter and sprinkle method too.

My mom always did the broiler method, but I think it had more to do with the fact that she could toast a lot more pieces at a time than with a toaster. We actually rarely have cinnamon toast at our house, but I know my kids would love it. Maybe I'll try it both ways and let the kids vote. :)

I haven't had cinnamon toast in ages. I think I would use the broiler these days. Thanks for sharing Heidi...
I'm so happy to have found your blog thanks to SITS. I kind of cheat and use the broiler method in the toaster, hehe. I toast it for just a bit so it doesn't end up soggy, then butter it, sprinkle it with the cinnamon and sugar mixture and stick it back in the toaster for a few minutes until the sugar starts to bubble. Kind of the best of both worlds :)

I think it tastes completely different from the toaster and don't really like it. My memory is always from the broiler and it leaves the center of the bread ooey gooey (a bit of butter and don't cook it until it's hard). So delicious.
